The Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskar, is a traditional yoga sequence to warm up and align the entire body.

1. MOUNTAIN POSE
INHALE
Stand with feet parallel, big toes touching and heels slightly apart. Raise arms overhead, palms facing each other.

2. FORWARD FOLD
EXHALE
With feet together, bend forward, hinging at the hips. Bend knees slightly.

3. HIGH LUNGE
INHALE
Step back with your right foot. Raise torso upright and sweep arms overhead, keeping palms facing each other.

4. PLANK
EXHALE
Bring both hands to the mat and walk feet back until your back is straight.

5. UPWARD-FACING DOG
INHALE
Drop hips and legs to the mat, toes pointing back. Straighten arms and lift torso and thighs up off the mat, looking straight ahead or slightly upward.

6. DOWNWARD DOG
EXHALE
Pull the tailbone up and back until your body forms an inverted V.

7. HIGH LUNGE
INHALE
Bring the right foot forward and step back with your left foot. Raise torso upright and sweep arms overhead.

8. FORWARD FOLD
EXHALE
Bring feet together. Bend forward, hinging at the hips. Bend knees slightly.
