Nurse: The care strategist
Your nurse will often be your main point of contact on your care team. They are the principal educator and will be your go-to person for any questions about your treatment plan. You can also rely on them for help coordinating with other care team members and providing access to additional resources.
Physician: The treatment plan architect
As an expert in CF care, your physician will work with you or your loved one to develop a care plan. In the background, they are staying updated on treatment guidelines, as well as new medications and therapies. If you have questions about the different parts of your care plan, like specific treatments, test results, and changes, they will be there to provide guidance.
Respiratory Therapist: The lung function guru
One of the main roles of your respiratory therapist is to conduct pulmonary function tests (PFTs) during care center visits. They also will be your primary resource for learning how to perform airway clearance techniques (ACTs) and correctly administering inhaled medications.
Dietitian: The nutritional captain
Your dietitian will design a personalized nutritional plan for you or your loved one, and they can also advise on dietary supplements, vitamins, meal plans, and healthy eating habits. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them with any inquiries about how to maintain a healthy weight.
Social Worker: The healthy mindset maker
From dealing with insurance to coordinating mental health resources, your social worker will be there to help you navigate the ins and outs of living with CF. You can turn to them for support regarding any major life changes, the financial aspects of CF care, or to be referred to a specialist such as a psychologist. They are also there to help you or your loved one maintain a healthy mindset.
You and your family are also important members of your CF care team!
Working with everyone from your physician to your social worker is essential to support your or your loved one’s health. Always maintain regular communication with your care team to make sure your care plan is the best for you.
